The rice terraces are called the Eighth Wonder of the World. It was carved from the glaring land of Ifugao province by the native farmers more that 2000 years ago. This man - made structure is also known as a giant stairway to the sky. If you are looking at the picture it seems the stairs are very low and small, well you are wrong. When we passed through the terraces going to Tappia falls I feel so small because the height of each steps is twice/thrice my height. They don?t use fertilizers to nurture the rice. It?s purely natural and it taste yummy.
How to get there
From Cubao/Manila, You can take a bus from Dangwa Bus or Autobus going to Banaue. It is better to reserve a ticket for guaranteed seat. Another way is to ride a bus going to Solano then take a 45 minutes jeepney ride going to Banaue. Better take the first route because it is more convenient. Ask the folks where you can ride the jeep from Banaue to the drop point. If your group is more than ten, better hire a jeepney because it is more convenient. The trek is very easy and gradual.
Tips
They do have rooms for rent (as for April 30, 2001 it is Php 50.00 per head). They do have restaurant so no need to worry for the food. But during the trail you must bring food because the stores along the trail will cost you. Imagine!!! A 500ml mineral water and 8 oz. softdrink is thirty pesos each. Then if get you are getting closer to Batad the price gets higher. There is no electricity?so you need to bring lamps, candles or flashlight. There is a lot of water for bathing ? You have to bring flashlights, lamps or candles. There is no electricity there. For Batad you can actually go to Tappia Falls.
